This year in the run up to Christmas I am doing something slightly different – this year I have signed up to complete the Aspire Channel Swim 2015.  Over the course of the next 12 weeks I will be attempting to swim a total of 22 miles in our local pool.  Ordinarily this distance would be fairly standard for around 6 weeks of  swimming 3 times a week but having had a good 8 months out of the pool – 3 of those with severe flare-ups of my brittle asthma – I think this is definitely going to be a challenge!  However I am quite excited and it would be awesome to raise at least a little bit of awareness and/or money to help this great charity.

‘Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help to people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury; it can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life.  Aspire exists because there is currently no cure’

Aspire supports people with Spinal Cord Injury through a variety of schemes from grants for equipment, to offering practical advice and even temporary adapted accommodation.  As part of their fundraising events, Aspire arrange a series of swimming events, in pools, open water and even at night!  Sadly my lungs wouldn’t tolerate the open water swims so I think for now I will swim the distance of the channel just in the relative warmth of my local pool!  You can find a full list of their fundraising events here.

I will keep you updated with my swims – currently 1.2miles done – 20.8 miles to go after 3 days! Or alternatively you can check how many lengths on my challenge home page here!!
