Peachick Approved: Stone Classic Chef’s Notebook Review
The Stone Classic Notebook is a beautiful gift for any foodie, chef or stationery fan. Its vegan leather cover is hardwearing and the layflat design makes both writing & reading your notes effortless!
I am always experimenting in the kitchen, whether its cooking for The Peas, making a special cake or doing my favourite thing in the world and feeding a hoard of people for dinner. But, as Hubby will attest, if you happen to ask for the recipe of what you have just enjoyed, chances are I may not have one! I never quite have pen & paper in the same place. So when Stone asked me if I would review their Classic Chef’s notebook, I didn’t hesitate!
With a whole host of features perfect for use in the kitchen, I no longer have to rely on hastily scribbling notes on the back of envelopes or tiny scraps of paper. All my recipe experiments are safely tucked away, and you never know some of them might make it to their very own post on here one day! The lay-flat design and waterproof pages are perfect for recording recipes as you experiment in the kitchen, none of that frustrating writing up & over the bump in the middle of a page.
And with the natural stone paper pages being greaseproof, you can keep your recipes close by while cooking them time and time again. Although I have found that this can limit the type of pens you can write with as the inks on my pretty fineliners bled. Biro, sharpies & a good old pencil worked really well, and the stone paper gives a lovely smooth surface to write & doodle on.
I particularly like the alternating lined and plain pages, especially when working on a new cake design. Sketches just look so much nicer on a plain page, and with the lined page next to it, the annotations, recipe notes and ingredients lists are all kept together. There is also a light perforation on each of the pages, so you can remove them if you wish. Although I have to admit I’m not one for taking pages out of books, it has been useful to make shopping lists on the back few pages or when creating recipes specifically for others to take home – I just need to remember to use a blank set of pages!
The Stone line of beautiful products each have the same vegan leather covers, layflat design and paper, with added bespoke features. The Classic Stone has handy conversion tables, while The Sommelier contains tasting charts and global wine maps. I may have also put the week-to-view diary on my Christmas list!
This is one well thought out range of stunning, hardback notebooks, sturdy and solid but not heavy. The vegan leather cover is beautifully soft and exceptionally hard wearing, my notebook lives in my handbag along with my diary, pens and assorted other essentials but still looks brand new! With the RRP of £18, this makes for a very reasonable but elegant gift for your foodie loved ones.
